Profile subjects

Projects undertaken by the Institute are oriented either at linguistics or literature, and are part of long-term research plans. The language-oriented research plans involve linguistic interpretations of Romance languages, resulting in publications such as Las lenguas románicas: su unidad y diversidad (2005). Our teams of literary scholars are involved in the faculty-wide research plan Foundations of the Modern World as Reflected by Literature and Philosophy, our sub-task being to investigate the cultural specificity of literatures in the supranational context, with results appearing in a publication of the same title , co-authored by all the institutes and departments involved, and in a specifically Romance-oriented publication, Literární paměť a kulturní identita (Literary Memory and Cultural Identity) (2008). The Institute´s future initiatives include two team projects: the one is entitled Romance Languages in the Light of Language Corpora – verifying conclusions made by modern linguistics through corpora of Romance languages; the other is a literature-oriented project, titledModern Version of the West (Thinking and Literature at the Turn of the 19th and 20th Centuries), focusing on Romance literatures in Europe and America. Both projects are open to partnership with other institutes at the Faculty of Arts.
