Publishing activities

The Institute of Romance Studies has obtained a new publication platform, a renewed version of Romanistica Pragensia, the first volume appearing in 2011. The Institute has long been guarantor of the journal Svět literatury. Časopis pro novodobé literatury (World of Literature - Journal of Modern Literatures), listed on the Czech Republic´s academic peer- reviewed periodicals; by emphasising a supranational comparative approach the journal helps integrate literary studies, and members of our Institute contribute as editors, reviewers and authors. Resulting from a research plan, Lusobrazilská knihovna (Luso-Brazilian Library) is a series of translations accompanied by comments and essays, providing systematic introduction into Czech culture of flagship works of Portuguese-written literature. Members of our Institute have furthermore published–in the Triáda publishing house–extensive translations of leading European literary scholars (Claudio Guillén, Leo Spitzer, George Steiner), an anthology of Latin-American essays, titled Druhý břeh Západu (The Other Coast of the West) and an anthology of contemporary Italian fiction and drama, Hořký život (The Bitter Life). The Spanish-Czech project conducted in partnership with Cátedra Complutense enabled the foundation of Scholia, a series featuring outstanding Ph.D. dissertations: so far, four dissertations have been edited and published in the series.
